We could very easily have an ALT MAP where we lay all the hi hat variances on the keyboard, its really going to be up to user demand. Either way, don't sweat it, you'll be able to do what you want and it sounds as good as you expect it to- excellent. As a drummer I just dug being able to close the pedal and hear the hi hat closing as well. Everything could change before the release. Keep in mind that I've got a beta version that has changed a lot even since I received it. But that's what it sounds and feels like. I could be wrong on exactly what's supposed to be happening here. Push the pedal down, you get a closed tip sound, let the pedal up and you get an open shank sound. They set it up this way to be more like a real hi-hat. At this point you just wouldn't be able to access those tip hits without using a control pedal (like a sustain pedal). I'm sorry, I may not be explaining it very well.
